Background

Nowadays in China, more and more young people seem to be less likely to cook, even when some of them are foodies. In the Internet age, many food media have attracted the attention of young people. The tendency for young people not to cook is diversified with factors changing in the times, the societies, family structures and more.

With the development of delivery service and e-commerce, young people are increasingly inclined to adjust to the take-away lifestyle or eating out. They are more and more reluctant to cook, considering the complexity of Chinese cuisine.

Interview

I usually cook, I will follow the tutorial to learn, and take notes. Think that the total takeaway is unhealthy

Cooking timeline: 5 o'clock in the supermarket to buy food 6 o'clock to start preparation General 6:30 ready to complete, 7:15 or so can finish the dishes.

Overall feeling: I think it is not easy to learn Chinese food. The amount of seasoning from the tutorial is difficult to control. In addition, the process of buying vegetables is very entangled, and the preparation in the early stage is cumbersome.


Rarely cook, maybe once or twice a week, or not, because often go to the parents to eat

Overall feeling: I want to learn cooking, but I am really afraid of trouble, because I need to buy, wash, cut, burn these steps. Chinese food cooking is more cumbersome, and for newcomers to learn time, naturally many people are not willing to do it, even if they are interested, they may not be able to cook.


I will cook on weekends

Cooking timeline: I will buy food at 9 o'clock in the morning. Preparing for cooking at 9:40 am, andI can eat them at 12:40 am

Overall feeling: Chinese food is not so easy for newcomers to get started. The positioning of seasonings varies from tutorial to tutorial. Sometimes it is not easy to control. But after being proficient, the new dishes will get up very quickly.

Because the seasoning and the ingredients are a step that is easy for the newcomer to make mistakes according to our research, some research has beed done about the basic seasoning materials and proportions of the food.

During ideation, I wanted to utilize existing technologies to help young people master cooking better and faster

I decided to design a kitchen cooking instructor based on smart speaker technology.

There is a visual indication of the cooking process and the amount of material used in the seasoning bottle or the seasoning tank.

And it can be combined with the mobile APP to set up the machine, the user can learn the cooking process and share the cooking results.
